January 2021

Scottish Government confirms the property market will remain open throughout January lockdown…

Addressing members of Parliament in Holyrood, Ms Sturgeon laid out plans for enhanced restrictions and announced an enforced period of lockdown, including the closure of schools to most pupils. This will last until at least the end of January, but will it affect your house move?

The short answer is no. You’ll be glad to know that house moves are permitted to go ahead and reasonable travel for a home move is also permitted. Find out all you need to know below...

Can I view properties in lockdown?

Absolutely. Virtual viewings are advised whenever possible to help limit the number of viewings you need to arrange. Prior to your appointment, we will provide you with details of how it will be conducted and what is required to help keep everyone safe.

Some of the measures we are taking include:

    1. Adherence to social distancing rules
    2. Wearing PPE e.g. face coverings
    3. Occupiers leaving the property during a viewing
    4. Viewings should be limited to 15 minutes
    5. No more than 2 households should be present, with the agent counting as one household.
    6. As few people as possible should be at the property.

The current rules in Scotland do allow tradespeople to carry out work in your home, as long as they have no coronavirus symptoms and are following all the Government safety and social distancing guidelines.

Yes, however travelling for the purposes of undertaking essential work on a property other than your main residence should not be used as a pretext for a holiday.  You should not stay longer than for the length of time required to undertake the necessary work.
