5 reasons you should consider a move to Ayrshire

There's so much on offer for buyers and renters

Easy to reach and easy to explore, Ayrshire sits on the stunning Scotland west coast, only a short 40-minute drive from Glasgow.

Ayrshire was also recently voted one of the best places in the UK to buy a home. Zoopla based their findings on quality of life as well as the average house price compared to a typical couple’s annual earnings.

Towns in Ayrshire did well – very well. Five of the top ten areas are all located in North, South or East Ayrshire, with Kilbirnie, Cumnock, Stevenson, Irvine and Girvan all making the list.

After reading the news, we decided to look at other reasons you should consider a move to this stunning part of Scotland – famed for its historic countryside towns, pristine sandy shores, delicious seafood and dairy produce.

Coastal living

Ayrshire is located on the coast of the Firth of Clyde, with a number of towns boasting stunning views across the water to Arran and Ailsa Craig.

Ayrshire’s coastal positioning also means the county is home to some of Scotland’s most beautiful beaches. Ayr, Troon, Turnberry, Largs, Croy and Dunure all offer sandy shores and clear waters. If you’re looking for a coastal retreat, Ayrshire is the place to be.

Getting around

Whether you’re looking to get out of the city or you don’t fancy Glasgow prices, Ayrshire offers excellent transport links to ensure you’re never too far away from the hustle and bustle of Scotland’s second city.

If you’re travelling by car, Ayrshire is accessible via the A77, A78 and A737, and the M77 links the region with Glasgow.

Glasgow Prestwick Airport is located north of Prestwick in South Ayrshire so you’re well catered for if you’re looking to fly. Interestingly, the airport is the only documented location in the UK visited by Elvis Presley…

What to do in your free time

If you’re looking to spend more time outdoors, Ayrshire is a great place to live. The county boasts glorious green moorlands and rolling hills, which are perfect for walkers and cyclists alike. The aforementioned coastline offers a number of sailing and kayaking opportunities.

If you’re into golf, it’s likely you’re already aware of the county’s extensive courses. Ayrshire is home to nearly 50 golf courses, including three Open Championship venues.

Ayrshire is a romantic treasure trove of historic castles, including Culzean which boasts extensive public grounds and the famous Seven Ghosts – appearing only to the select few. The county also offers tumbledown monastery buildings, historic white rendered cottages all punctuating the soft green landscape.

Foodies are catered for too. Ayrshire’s coastal position means seafood is plentiful, as is Scottish lamb, and the county is renowned for its potato growing.

What types of property does Ayrshire offer?

We already know Ayrshire offers great value for money when it comes to buying and renting, but the type of property on offer means every need and preference is catered for.

If you’re looking to make the most of the seafood and coastal scenery, properties along the Firth of the Clyde are plentiful, as are town centre apartments which make commuting into Glasgow a breeze.

If you’re considering a move, here’s just a few reasons we think Ayrshire should make your list. With so much on offer, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
